I Received a Notice in the Mail That My Loan Has Been transferred To a New Bank or a New Servicer, What Does This Mean?

Loans are often transferred from bank to bank, sometimes even without your knowledge. If you receive a notice in the mail that your loan has been transferred, this normally means that the servicing rights for your loan have been transferred. This does not necessarily mean that your loan was sold to a new owner, it may simply mean that the owner of your loan has hired a new loan servicer. If your loan is current and you are not having any problems making your monthly mortgage payments, then a loan transfer is not something you really need to worry about. However, if you are struggling to make payments, are in the process of a loan modification or your payments have been deferred for any reason, a loan transfer can create a real problem for you.
